Yine Yeni Yeniden Linköping!

Bundan yaklaşık 2 yıl önce yolum ilk kez yurtdışına düşerken tanış olmuştum Linköping ile. Bir kaç gün içinde yine oralarda olmuş olacağım, başka başka vesilelerle. 2 yıl öncesi ve şimdisini karşılaştırınca inanamıyorum değişen bunca şeye. Şükür ki değişenler yüzümü güldürüyor, değiştirene hamd olsun! Bosna'da okulum açılınca yeniden burada olacağımı, evimin, işimin burada olduğunu düşünerek Linköping'e gitmek garip bir ferahlık veriyor. Güzel bir tatil olacak inş.

City Exploration+War+Small Fun

City exploration continues for us in Sarajevo. Recently, we walked through one of the famous parts of the city which is called Kosevo. The area is famous since it includes important stuff around it like US embassy, local governmental offices, the biggest hospital of Sarajevo, parks, Olimpic stadium and historical buildings. Despite the weather was quite warm, we tried to walk as much as we could. The start of the road was quite wide and nice to walk.

It was the same road where we saw so strange buildings.I was talking with one of my friends about the architectural structures of London where the historical tissue could be preserved successfully. Actually, I have seen the same thing in Paris. I became so confused because after I started to take the pictures of historical buildings I noticed that they are everywhere! And if I continued to take the picture of all of them there would be no end for this. Unfortunately it is not so valid for Istanbul. We have only special covered places -for turists especially. For example; Sultanahmet, Taksim. Again unfortunately it is similar here in Sarajevo. Not because of the war only but because of the communist periods... When I look at these giant buildings from those periods, I can only think how they are out of being humanistic, aesthetic and artistic. But still it does not mean that the city has no architectural wealth. Especially on the area where we went, there were quite much examples of the buildings from Austria-Hungary period.
By the way, as a small note, I did not know that Bosnia was the only place where Ottoman did not fight to keep and made agreement to leave to another empire i.e Austria-Hungarian empire. Even it was said that the religious authority of Bosnia during those times was saying that "I wish that the Ottomans would give Istanbul rather than Sarajevo." At the end of our walking, we saw the outer side of olimpic stadium where 1984 winter olimpic games were held. I think there is also museum inside it but for this time we did not visit it....
The ambiguities about the situation between Georgia and Russia still continues and there have been so much views about it, I would like to share my personal view about it. First of all, I do not think that any of these two parts are totally right but at least Russia seems to me more right than Georgia and especially than Saakaşvili. I do not understand how the Georgian governmental side can behave as the innocent one because they were the first ones went inside South Ossetia. I also do not understand to whom or what they trusted while they were entering inside South Ossetia, US, Nato, European countries? Another interesting situation from the war was contradictory news coming from both sides. According to the news quoted from world-wide news by on 'ntvmsnbc', it was 'loose-loose' war from the very beginning and the biggest looser was Saakaşvili. (Look below)

“Kazan-Kazan” teorisine atıfla “Bu en başından beri Kaybet-Kaybet çatışmasıydı” ifadesini kullanan İngiliz The Guardian Gazetesi de en büyük kaybedenin Saakaşvili olduğuna vurgu yapıyor: “En büyük kaybeden ise Gürcistan Devlet Başkanı Mihail Saakaşvili. Rusya’nın Güney Osetya’yı geri almaya çalışmayacağını düşünüp kumar oynadı ve kaybetti. Gürcistan’ı birleştirmek temel hedefiydi. Ancak şimdi kazanmak bir yana daha fazla toprak yitirdi. Güney Osetya’yı tamamen kaybetti. Abhazya’dan bir askeri saldırıya da hedef olabilir. Rusya da bedel ödedi. Komşusunun egemenliğindeki bir bölgeyi işgal ederek, tüm bölgeyi tedirgin etti."

Although I agreed these indications mentioned above, I think the biggest loosers were regular people, as usual in all war. Because lots of people has died just because of the gambling of their president while he is still alive!

A Song From Dino Merlin

I wrote about Dino Merlin`s concert before. Maybe it is nice now to put songs also from him. Actually I became a bit surprise because his new songs especially sound more rock. The song that I would like to share was the song that the people wanted to hear from Dino Merlin during the concert again and again. Actually, this is one of my bests from him either. I would like to unerstand also word by word what he is saying. But music includes its magic at this point maybe because despite I do not understand the lyrics, it effects me emotionally a lot.

National Museum of Sarajevo

This is the first time that I am writing to my blog via my new operating system called Ubuntu. If you aso became so tired of Windows and viruses, I suggest this operating system. It is good that there is someone else around me who understands about computers. think I made my poor husband enoughly crazy with my stupidity about computers. So, if I can manage to use this new operating system, I am sure it should not be so hard so many people :) Ok, that is enough commercial I guess.

We had been in national museum of Sarajevo around 1 week ago. Actually I would like to see it so long time ago but I could not have possibility. Now, it was the time. The museum is somewhere in the middle of the city but closer to the center. Despite it got so much damages during the war, it is one of the ones renovated quickly. The general view of it can be seen below:
The museum consists of three basic parts; archeology, animals and flowers (fauna and flora), botanic garden. Our museum visit started with archeology part where the remains (stones, weapons, potteries, coins etc.) from ancient times are exhibited. It was interesting to see that the basic remains are weapons and jewelries, two important stuff for men and women.By the way, the museum includes a part for historical books but it is totally under protection and it is impossible to get closer to them. Our second stop inside the museum was botanic garden which is not so big but calm and peaceful with all the flower, trees and some old remains (graves especially) around it.
The last part where the animal and flower species are exhibited is quite big and it is full of with stuffed real animals. They evenput sound effects about the animals, especially the wolves. It was a bit scary I need to confess. I especially liked the part in which different types of butterflies are collected.
All in all, if one day you way reaches to Sarajevo, it is one of the places where you can visit. The building in itself is also quite historical and the tickets are not so expensive at all, 5 km (around 5 ytl) per person. One bad thing about the museum is, all the notes and information inside the building is in Bosnian!

Bir Yazi

Karadzic`in yakalanmasinin ardindan burada hemen her gun onunla ilgili haberler yer aliyor televizyonlarda. Ilginci su ki, gerek kendisi gerek de Sirp milliyetciler onu bir Sirp kahramani olarak kabul ediyorlar. Ulkesi adina onemli (!) isler yaptigina kanaat edip vicdanlarin temiz olduguna hukmediyorlar. 1 olay farkli yerlerden farkli hissiyat ve dusunlerle nasil farkli yorumlanabiliyor boylesine?! Tum bunlarin arasinda bugun ntvmsnbc`nin sitesinden okuyup hosuma giden bir yaziyi sizinle de paylasmak istedim.

(Mete Cubukcu): 1995 yazında Serebrenica’dan Tuzla’ya kaçan binlerce kadın, yaşlı ve çocuk havaalanındaki derme çatma çadırlara sığınmıştı. İlk göze çarpan erkek sayısının yok denecek kadar az olmasıydı; olanlarsa yaşlılardı. Binlerce kişi kocasını, oğlunu, kardeşini geride bırakarak kovulmuştu. Gazeteci olarak Serebrenica’da korkunç olaylar yaşandığını duymuş ancak henüz doğrulatamamıştık. Zaten o dönede Sırp bölgesinden haber alabilmek çok kolay değildi.

Tuzla Havaalanı’ndaki kadınlar ise ne yapacaklarını bilmez halde bizden yardım bekliyor, kocalarının, çocuklarının isimlerini bizlere verip yaşayıp yaşamadıklarını öğrenmemizi istiyorlardı. O acı manzara karşısındaki çaresizliğimiz insan olarak bizleri çok yaralamıştı. Gazeteciliğin “ateşle imtihanı” durumlarından biriydi Daha sonra binlercesinin Sırplar tarafından katledildiğini öğrendiğimiz erkeklerin kadınlarıyla karşıyaydık işte. Yapabileceğimiz tek şey Tuzla’daki BM ofisine o isimleri ulaştırmak olmuştu.

Haberci olarak ise o kadınların seslerini dünyaya duyurabilmeye çalışmıştık. Sonradan neden sadece kadınların Serebrenica’dan sürüldüğünü öğrenecektik. Sıcak bir yazdı; insanlar kavruluyordu. Ama onları kavuran, çaresizlik, haber alamama, dünyanın duyarsızlığı ve BM’nin bile bile binlerce kişiyi Sırp kasaplarına teslim etmesiydi. Kime kızacağımızı bilemiyorduk. Haberci olarak kızgınlığımızı habere yansıtmamaya çalışsak da ortada büyük bir cinayet, etnik temizlik ve alçakça bir durum olduğunu biliyorduk.

Sırp faşistlerin katliamları karşısında “objektif” gazetecilik adına, hissizleşen, objektiflik adına eşitsiz güçleri eşitmiş gibi yansıtan, kurbanla katili aynı kefeye koyan, böyle bir durumda taraflara eşit uzaklıkta durmaya çaba gösteren bir ekolü temsil etmiyorduk. En azından ben etmiyordum. Tıpkı faşist Nazilerle soykırıma uğrayan Yahudilere ya da Filistinlilere bunca yıldır çektirdikleri eziyet karşılığında İsrail politikasına eşit yaklaşmadığımız gibi.

Faşist Sırp çetecileri Çetnikler’in çektirdikleri acıları kadınların ağzından yansıttık. Mektuplarını haber yaptık ve katliamların devam ettiğini vurguladık. Daha sonra da ne kadar haklı olduğumuzu gördük. O yaz çok zor geçmişti. O kadınları geçmişlerini yitirmişlerdi. Aralarında tecavüze uğrayanlar da vardı. Tuzla’daki rehabilitasyon merkezinde toplamışlardı onları. Aralarında intihar edenler oldu. Bazıları ise kaçırılıp Belgrad’taki batakhanelerde satıldı. Tuzla’daki merkezde kadınlarla görüşmek için koşulları zorlamadık. Gazetecilik vicdanımız o duruma el vermedi.

Onlara yeniden o anları tekrar yaşatmak doğru değildi. Ama merkez yöneticisi her şeyi bütün korkunçluğu ile anlatmıştı. Bosna savaşının en çok vurduğu da kadınlardı zaten. Ve hala vicdanlarındaki yüreklerindeki çizikler geçmiş değil. Sırp katiler yakalanıp adalete teslim edilse de o çizikler uzun yıllar kapanmayacak gibi görünüyor. O günlerde yaptığımız haberlerle insanların şimdinin moda tabiriyle farkında olmalarını sağlayabildik mi, Bosna’da katliam yaşandığını insanlara iletebildik mi bilemiyorum. Ama o korkunç olayları yaşayanlara borcumuzu hiçbir zaman ödeyemedik, ödeyemeyiz de. Sonuç olarak gazetecilik böyle bir insanlık durumu.

Bu yüzden sadece Karadziç’in yakalanması uluslar arası alanda 13 yıl sonra gelen bir başarı olsa da o kadınların ve bizlerin vicdanını rahatlatamaz. O günlerde Saraybosna kuşatmasını sadece televizyonlardan seyreden Sniper Avenue’da her gün insanların arenadaki hayvanlar misalini öldürülüşünün çetelesini tutan, Yugoslavya’da milliyetçiliğin kabarışını provoke eden, olan bitene göz yuman bir uluslararası toplumun Karadziç’i mahkûm etmesi, bu suçluluk duygusu karşısında onların vicdanlarını rahatlatabilir.

Etnik milliyetçiliğin, bilinç altına itilen düşmanlıkların bir gün önce ekmeğini paylaşan insanları bir gün sonra komşusuna tecavüz edecek kadar yabancılaştırdığını Bosna’da gördük. Milliyetciliğin nerelere varabileceğini, insanların nasıl bir akıl tutulması yaşayabildiğini onlarca yıldır “birlik” görüntüsü altında nefretin nasıl yaşatıldığına tanık olduk. O zaman Sırp-Hırvat milliyetçiliğiydi bu. Şimdi başka bir coğrafyada başka milliyetçilikler kolayca aynı korkunç tabloları yaratabilir.

Çünkü Bosna tek suçlu Karadziç değildir. Onunla birlikte olan, tetikçeken, tevavüz eden yüzlerce kişi şimdi Sırbistan sokaklarında dolaşıyor. Peki ne olacak Karadziç’in yargılanması her şeyi halledecek mi? Uluslar arası toplumun vicdanını rahatlatacak mı?

Arent’in söylediği gibi Nazi Almanya’sında toplama kampındaki görevlilileri hepsi sapık katil ve Nazi ruhlu insanlar değildi. Onlar devletin kendilerine veridiği görevi yerine getirdiklerini düşünen “iyi” insanlardı. Yugoslavya’da Kardziç’in peşinden giden onun emirlerini kanlı katliamlara çeviren sırandan tetikçiler de “milliyetçilik” adına iyi şeyler yaptıklarını düşünmüşlerdi.

Gecen yüzyılın gördüğü son büyük katliamın kadınlara yüklediği acı büyük oldu. Ama maalesef bu konuda da tedbir almak için bunların yaşanması beklendi. Örneği, tecavüz artık bir savaş suçu kabul edildi. Bir savaş silahı olarak kullanılması yasaklandı. Ülkelerin bekalarını milliyetçilikte, bölünerek yaşamakta değil birlikte eşit şartlarda yaşamak ve zor olanı başarmak olduğu Bosna’da test edildi. Ve bu test zor olanın yani birlikte yaşamın başarılmasının gerekliliğini ortaya koydu. Hem Türkiye’de hemde başka coğrafyalarda Bosnalı kadınlara borumuzu ödemek için bunu başarmak zorundayız.

Reality?, Dream?

I am on the sofa and watching news from Aljazeera from our cable TV -by the way, it is such kind of a trend in Bosnia that almost all apartmens have cable TVs- for quite long hours. After a while I notice that my brain (only brain?) is irritated by the news about explosions, nuclear weapons, terrorist attacks, famine, typhoon etc. all around the world. Dead bodies, screams, shouts, cries are passing one by one first from my eyes and my brain and my heart... I just remember these verses from the Quran: "Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: `I will create a vicegerent (khalifa) on earth.` They said, `Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?´ He said: ´I know what ye know not." (The Cow: 30) I am thinking how actually angels were knowing that the human being would make mischief and shed blood on earth. I know their all knowledge is from the God but according to what? Did they see any experience of human being or just did they recognize the potential of badness inside them? Moreover, the God told to the angels that ´I know what you do not know!´ It was not saying that `You are wrong, they will never do any of these ones` but somehow it means that `Despite what you are saying about human being is true, it is just a part of a truth. I know the other parts of the Truth which gives me motivation to create them.` Somehow it means that `Because of these other parts of the reality, it is totally worthful to create them.` What I am watching on TV reflects the first part of the conversation, the part where the angels are questioning the essence of the human being. But what keeps me hopeful is the knowledge of the second part of this conversation.

Maybe some of you heard about this new from TVs and newspapers, but I would like to write a bit about it because that I am now so close to the happenings. Yesterday night, the war criminal Radovan Karadzic was arrested in Serbia, Belgrad. I was almost on the way to sleep and started to hear klaxon coming from the cars. I could not understand what was happening but now I know that Bosniaks were celebrating his arrest occuring 13 years later after the war. I do not know the details but it is my personal idea that probably he has been in Serbia since 13 years but Serbians decided to arrest him just now since they are so eager to join EU. Sorry, I can not write these explanations in English but the situation can be interpreted as: "Hey gözünü sevdiğimin AB'si, sen nelere kadirsin!"

As a small note, I have a memory in my mind about Karadzic from BBC's documentary about Srebrenica. He was the leader of the soldiers who occupied the city and in a video taken by themselves he was giving a small speech and exactly saying these words: "Now, 11th. of July 1995 is a HOLY DAY since we came here and conquered the muslims, Turks!" It is quite common expression here to call muslim people (Bosniaks) as Turks because of Ottoman heritage.
